Apple has unveiled the HomePod, a $350 music speaker with Siri inside. Using WWDC as the platform, Apple is joining Amazon and Google in the smart-speaker ring, but using audio fidelity as its differentiator. For Apple’s smart home plans, the HomePod will act as a platform for Siri, to control devices using voice commands, but the HomePod is a very low-key smart home launch – although Apple says WWDC was just a teaser, and more news will follow.
