In the post-MWC lull, we had a chance to provide a glimpse at Apple’s new C1 modem capabilities. Wireless Watch is far from a benchmarking service, but a number of other third-party examinations suggest that Apple’s first generation modem is encouraging. However, the successor must add mmWave 5G to the mix, and that is a significant step up in complexity. The two devices tested were an iPhone 16e and an iPhone 14 Pro Max. The former uses the new Apple C1, while the latter uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 modem. Both were on EE’s 5G network, in a semi-rural part of Somerset that is not yet covered with 5G Standalone.
