California’s Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) have received a letter signed by 347 assorted environmental, housing, business and other groups, which pre-emptively criticizes any imposition of extra costs on solar installers as well as any reduction in electricity bill savings. At present the payback time for rooftop solar in the state is about six to eight years, but the duration could almost double if the utilities get everything they want from the pending Net Metering 3.0 reform which is to be finalized this year – final due date January 2022.
