No matter how much new generation capacity is built in the US, (given limitations such as the transmission grid), data centers will expand their demand to meet it, and electricity prices will definitely rise no matter what, driven by AI. The latest big research piece put out on data center power demand growth is the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s 2024 Report on U.S. Data Center Energy Use. It makes for an excellent read.
