The USA’s FCC may have settled spectrum disputes with the automotive, satellite, broadcast and aviation sectors in recent years (see above), but it still has more on its hands, including the long-running saga of Ligado Networks’ battle with the GPS industry over its 1.6 GHz L-band spectrum. Last year, that seemed close to resolution, but now a group of senators representing the US military are the latest to weigh in on the debate, and to try to force the FCC to withdraw its support for Ligado, or drastically change the rules governing its spectrum. Ligado was initially known as LightSquared Networks and it received permission to use its mobile satellite allocations in the L-band for hybrid satellite/terrestrial services.…
