In Q1, US battery energy storage system (BESS) installations rose to 1,265 MW / 3,512 MWh, a growth of 89% year-on-year. In China, 3.76 GW / 9.18 GWh was added in Q1, which is up 143% year-on-year, and Q1 is disproportionately small compared to full-year figures. There are profitability concerns for Chinese battery projects on the power market side, but for the most part they are being built because of co-location regulatory requirements, rather than profit.
