Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) has a system attached to the Chinese grid for the first time at a pilot project in Matouying District, Tangshan City, in China’s Hebei Province. The Hebei Coalfield Geology Bureau organized this Tangshan pilot in conjunction with municipal authorities and a half dozen assorted research and commercial bodies. Almost all geothermal power to date is hydrothermal – relying on naturally occurring hot water resources which are located in permeable rock and trapped beneath a layer of impermeable rock. This combination’s rarity has so far limited the relevance of geothermal.
