Ericsson has denied reports that it has failed to achieve a significant share in AT&T’s 5G RAN contracts. If Ericsson has largely lost out to Nokia and Samsung, it would be a major blow. The Swedish vendor is pinning many of its hopes for a turnaround on early adoption of 5G – probably too many. While Nokia and Huawei have broad-ranging strategies for reigniting growth, amid the commoditization of the core telco network business, Ericsson has doubled down on its traditional strengths, and reversed many previous attempts to diversify into businesses like media platforms.
