One of the first actions of Ericsson CEO Börje Ekholm, when he took the helm at the start of 2017, was to reverse his predecessor’s strategy of expanding a direct-to-enterprise business. However, Ericsson recently announced a change in this policy, setting up an enterprise division to target the burgeoning private networks sector where Nokia has been making hay. While the Swedish firm still insists that its biggest customer base, the telcos, will remain its biggest channel to the enterprise, it is also prepared to bypass operators to sell a widening portfolio of offerings, with its Cradlepoint and Vonage acquisitions at the heart.
