The Q4 update for Ericsson’s Mobility Report is out. The headline figures in the report are that 5G subscriptions are expected to reach 6.3 billion in 2030, which is equivalent to 67% of the total mobile subscriptions – which are set to reach 9.5 billion. At this point, 5G will carry 80% of total mobile data traffic, and 6G will begin to arrive in the market. Ericsson states that 2027 will be the year that 5G subscriptions will overtake 4G. In Q3 2024, 160 million 5G subscriptions were added, to bring the global total to 2.1 billion.
