When the mobile network became a vehicle for internet services, not just cellular voice and text, its evolution became closely entwined with that of Internet standards including IP itself. Not closely entwined enough, according to some architects, which have voiced fears that work on future 5G platforms is not sufficiently integrated with the evolution of the Internet.
