BT has reportedly approached AT&T and Orange, to have its international operations’ tires kicked. The report comes from Bloomberg, so take it with the appropriate grain (bag) of salt, but it both aligns with BT’s new restricting strategy and tallies with the state of the wider operator market. There are elements of history repeating itself, if you cast your mind back far enough, but BT’s refocusing is an attempt to fix its problems before it finds itself truly under duress. As more pieces of the operator stack are commoditized, turning a profit becomes a lot more challenging.
