Fixed wireless access (FWA) was the first push in the USA’s 5G deployment, partly because Verizon and AT&T initially deployed in millimeter wave spectrum, whose high capacity and short range make mobile coverage challenging; partly because FWA does not require a large handset ecosystem and so can enable an operator to gain first mover advantage.
