Geely plans private satellites, IoT verticals could close off to MNOs

Chinese automaker Geely, the owner of Volvo, has said it is developing a satellite network for its autonomous vehicle strategy, which is both a blow for the MNO world that hopes automotive traffic is going to be a savior, and for the MNOs that think the Industrial IoT is going to be a significant new revenue opportunity. On the high-bandwidth side of things, it seems that Geely has crunched the numbers and seen that it is practical to do this, and we expect that there would be hundreds of other industrial types that could come to that same conclusion.
