Of the leading chip foundries – TSMC, Samsung and GlobalFoundries – the latter is the least prominent in 5G chips but it is aiming to improve its position in this market, and other cutting edge technologies that are driving semiconductor growth, such as AI/ML. GlobalFoundries is licensing gallium nitride technology from Raytheon Technologies in a strategy to boost 5G and enable future 6G wireless infrastructure applications. The wireless chip partnership will see the two companies engage in joint development and commercialization of Raytheon’s GaN-on-silicon technology in order to boost RF performance for 5G and future 6G networks and devices.
