The Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy has signed an MoU with various private companies to develop the full range of renewable energy solutions on the island of Halki, an early demonstration of its new GR-Eco Islands initiative. The island has a permanent population of under 300, combined with a similar number of seasonal tourists, and lies just to the north and west of Rhodes. As such it should only require the 1 MW of solar capacity mentioned in the agreements, and even with total coverage of EVs, charging stations, grid energy storage and 5G, total investment will be well under $10 million.
