A handful of US lawmakers have proposed sanctions on CATL. While we don’t expect this proposal to bear fruit any time soon, upcoming elections or a trade war escalation could change that. Now is a good point at which to take a look at how disruptive such a move would be for US battery and EV manufacturers. The answer is pretty straightforward – practically all LFP cell supply in the US currently comes from China, and CATL is the largest supplier, so the move would disrupt domestic US efforts significantly, affecting the downstream directly and thereby also the upstream.
