It finally has a name; IBM and Maersk have christened their long-running blockchain-based logistics platform TradeLens, and have announced that some 94 companies are already signed up as members. Having progressed from pilot to early adopter phase, TradeLens is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2018. However, the big question remains whether TradeLens can attract sufficient volume to become the standard platform for logistics. Behind the scenes, there have been some corporate changes. Maersk span the project out in January, and it has been restructured as a “joint collaboration,” rather than a joint venture.
