Semicast research has reported that Intel has leapt to second place in the 2015 industrial semiconductor market, settling in behind Texas Instruments in first-place, Infineon Technologies in second-place, and dethroning now-fourth-place STMicroelectronics. Renesas Electronics rounded out the top-five. For Intel, this looks like good news, as it tries to restructure its business to embrace the Internet of Things (IoT), having moved away from its mobile portfolio this month. Semicast says that the industrial sector measured in the report includes factory automation, motors, lighting, building automation, test and measurement, and power and energy.
