Some of the most important decisions that operators can make about their 5G business models relate to ownership of physical assets. Some will offload many of their towers, data centers and even fiber, and focus for differentiation on new services and agility enabled by the virtualized networks. That can make operating costs more predictable or sometimes lower, and at one extreme, we will see some operators forgoing network ownership altogether and becoming MVNOs in some locations or markets. At the other extreme are operators which still see ownership of networks to be key to their business model.
