BMW, Intel, and Mobileye have jointly announced a new partnership to build a fully autonomous fleet of self-driving cars by 2021. BMW’s iNext car is going to provide the foundation on which Intel and Mobileye will build out the compute-power needed to run the self-driving functions. The trio talk about technology that operates on the ‘eyes off (level three)’ and ‘mind off (level four)’ level, which are evolutions of the ADAS systems that have been making driver’s lives a little simpler . The final stage of this progression is referred to as ‘driver off,’ and at that point, OEMs like BMW can stop designing cars with HMIs (human-machine interfaces).
