NEC is the latest vendor to push the technology boundaries in order to make high frequency spectrum usable for future 5G networks. The Japanese company has unveiled a prototype of a massive element active antenna system (AAS) for the 28 GHz band, which is expected to be an important spectrum option for high capacity and fixed wireless 5G services in the early 2020s.
