According to Shenzhen-based consultancy High-tech Industry Research, the first five months of 2024 saw 274.5 GWh of power batteries installed globally (SNE’s number is 285.4 GWh), of which 250.3 GWh went to passenger cars. EVs sold worldwide in these five months came to 5,453,000, up 17% year-on-year. Meanwhile BYD’s sales in H1 2024 are up 28% – so a gain in market share. Of the total, 44% is now lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and almost all the rest ternary.
