BP has bought rights to a 9 GW solar portfolio in the US from 7X Energy, for $220 million. The transfer will occur within 30 days, and the portfolio will then be developed by Lightsource BP, a joint venture 50% owned by BP. The projects are mostly distributed across Texas and the Midwest; the Midwest is an especially fast-growing market for solar within the US, catching up to the south to some extent. BP has a target for 20 GW renewable capacity by 2025 and 50 GW by 2030. This latest acquisition has increased its pipeline from 14 GW to 23 GW.
