MediaTek is rarely associated with WiFi in the same way that it is with cellular, but it ships tens of millions of chips for WiFi consumer electronics devices every year and is an active contributor to WiFi standards development. Early this year, the Taiwanese chip provider announced it was supplying technologies for a new WiFi 6E testbed run by the WiFi Alliance. It is contributing its MT7915-AP-AX access points, and MT7915-STA-AX client-side wireless technology – both supporting unlicensed operation in the 6 GHz band.
