Microsoft has provided a limited preview of its new Azure cloud service for the Internet of Things at its data insights event. It is called the Microsoft Azure Intelligent Systems Service (AISS) and will allow users to store, manage and analyze data generated from machines and sensors in the IoT. The data can be manipulated by a number of tools, including Microsoft’s HD Insight and Power BI, as well as Azure Hadoop. The AISS system will be able to manage devices from outside the Windows environment ‘ a critical feature, as Microsoft has yet to launch an OS small enough to be embedded on the majority of IoT devices.
