Last week we reported that two Middle Eastern operators – Ooredoo in Qatar and Etisalat in the United Arab Emirates – were claiming to have switched on commercial 5G in selected neighborhoods. Now that number has already doubled to four, with another UAE operator, du, plus Saudi Arabia’s STC, also claiming to be 5G-ready. Ooredoo did admit to LightReading that it was “waiting for manufacturers to start producing mobile devices – they don’t exist yet anywhere in the world. Once these devices are produced, we’ll make them available for immediate use, as our networks are well ahead with readiness.
