European operators BT, A1 and VMO2 have been keen to hype up recent network slicing trials, but these applications are still a long way from realization, and even then, the income opportunities have been stunningly overblown. Last week, BT staged a network slicing test run with Ericsson and Qualcomm, showing its ability to offer mobile gaming and video conferencing slices at the same time on the same device. The trial ran at BT’s flagship R&D facility Adastral Park, using devices powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy Mobile Platform, on an Ericsson-powered 5G Standalone (SA) network.
