Last week the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) put out a report suggesting that Floating Solar could answer all of the world’s energy problems. Essentially it is not wrong, but as usual, the effort was a little simplistic, and worked primarily on counting all of the regions of available water, and then discounting some which were not suitable. This report is mostly about counting dams, and looking at the associated hydropower driven from those dams, and working out how to blend hydropower into a single resource with solar that is floating on the reservoir of the dam.
