At the end of last week, a jury decided that Google’s use of 37 Java APIs constituted fair use, and that Google did not owe Oracle any damages for their use in the Android operating system. It’s a case that sent tremors through the IoT industry, but one that looks set to be emblematic of the shape of things to come in IoT litigation. While Larry Ellison may well be vitriolic enough to lead a sustained campaign against Google, based on the swiftness of this decision, it seems unlikely that Oracle will have much success in persuading the courts in the US of its case.
