Oracle is busy testing its Embedded Java system in energy grid field tests, in partnership with San Diego Gas and Electric at the Borrego Springs micro-grid project. The aim of the project is to demonstrate Oracle’s new grid management software and prove Java’s capabilities in edge-grid equipment. The smart grid is being given new ways to interact thanks to open platforms from Cisco (IOx software for smart grid routers), Itron (Embedded Sensing Platform) and Silver Spring Networks (SilverLink Sensor Network).
