A flurry of patent news arrived during the Wireless Watch summer break, with the biggest announcement being the official revocation of the controversial SEP overhaul proposal by the European Commission. A raft of lawsuits have recently been filed too, with some resolved – the largest of which was InterDigital’s billion-dollar victory against Samsung. InterDigital had been seeking a higher price for its patent portfolio license with Samsung, which lapsed at the end of 2022. Arbitration began in January 2023, and in July 2025, the two parties agreed on the new price – a figure which stands at some $1.05 billion, with the new term expiring at the end of 2030.
