A study from Cellular Insights has highlighted the performance gap between Apple’s C1 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon modems. Commissioned by Qualcomm, the tests show how far Apple needs to improve on the C1, for its looming flagship implementation. Currently, the C1 is found on only the affordable iPhone 16e variant, but Apple will be ramping up the pressure on its engineers, as the iPhone 17 launch nears. The overarching question about the raw performance is that modem throughput has mattered very little, historically, to the consumer purchasing decision. At this point, the iOS vs. Android dichotomy is incredibly entrenched, and for most users, the raw throughput of their phones is a very minor concern.
