Japan’s disruptive cloud-native operator, Rakuten Mobile, continues to grab the headlines with a mixture of progress and setbacks in its roadmap to a fully open 5G network, with a radical new business model. Part of that model will be the monetization of the pioneering work it has done in deploying an end-to-end cloud-native cellular network. It aims to package up the blueprint, technology framework and experiences underpinning the Rakuten Communications Platform (RCP), to sell to other operators and to enterprises worldwide.
