It is clear that the defining feature of 5G is the convergence of advanced connectivity with cloud computing, especially when distributed to the edge. These architectures will support internal operator requirements, such as virtualized 5G RAN or upgraded AR/VR platforms; and enable new external revenue streams, such as 5G/edge services for enterprises. Some operators will choose to build their own telco clouds, at least at the edge, to support distributed networks and new customer applications.
