Grid Strategies has found in a report commissioned by Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) that there are thirty-six HVDC lines which could break ground in the ‘near term’ across the US – and that these would connect 187 GW of renewables to the grid. This is a follow-up to ACEG’s original 2021 report on the same topic, Transmission Projects Ready to Go: Plugging Into America’s Untapped Renewable Resources, which found only 22 HV lines (both AC and DC) with a combined 60 GW grid-connection capacity.
