Rethink Energy has published a new report analyzing the cost breakdown of silicon solar modules through to 2040, with particular detail given to usage rates of polysilicon, high-purity quartz, and silver paste, as well as technological improvements in the Czochralski Process and wafer production. A preliminary view on perovskite single-junction and tandem module costs is also given. The current module price of $150 per kW is already a historic low, down 42% from January 2020 just before the pandemic hit, and it’s about to drop below $140 per kW heading into 2024.
