Two very different approaches to the IoT caught our eye at MWC. On the cusp of announcing major operator wins, Spain’s Sateliot was at the heart of the GSMA innovation stand, showing off its satellite constellation updates. Tucked away on the Finland stand, Wirepas’ non-3GPP approach to 5G racked up a lot of interest too. Sateliot provides an LTE Cat-NB satellite service, which is marketed as ‘5G Narrowband IoT From Space,’ owing to the current 3GPP roadmap that will fully migrate Cat-NB (NB-IoT) into a 5G Standalone compatible core network.
