Scatec Solar will acquire hydropower developer SN Power from Norfund, the private equity firm owned by the Norwegian government. Scatec Solar and SN Power are both Norwegian companies and are expected to close the $1.166 billion deal in the first half of 2021. The company plans to drop the ‘Solar’ from its name and become just ‘Scatec’. This acquisition is clearly aimed at floating solar located at hydropower dams, something which SN Power has been testing already. But Scatec intends to expand into wind and battery energy storage as well, both of which also feature in SN Power’s portfolio.
