Module maker Sequans has partnered with SIM-giant Gemalto to announce the first commercially available LTE Cat 1 module for M2M devices. Cat 1 is the first of a new branch of LTE that aims to address applications that don’t require the high bandwidth communications that were the initial focus of LTE developments. The first of the new Sequans-powered Gemalto modules are expected to certify and ship in the second half of this year, initially targeting the US markets before expanding outwards. The deal will combine Sequans’ StreamliteLTE chipsets with Gemalto’s SIM specialties – beginning with Sequans’ Calliope LTE platform.
