Telecom fraudsters use Artificial Inflation of Traffic (AIT) to generate large volumes of fake SMS traffic, usually two-factor authentication messages through apps and websites. This system rips off companies using SMS services to authenticate customers and creates a fake economy. Though these frauds are well known, the industry is struggling to decide who to pin the blame on: the fraudsters, or the companies that allow the rogue traders to operate.
