Oil major Shell will have to reduce its emissions faster than expected, following an order from the Dutch Court, in a lawsuit filed by seven groups including Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth Netherlands. At a court room in The Hague, judge Larisa Alwin stated that “the court orders Royal Dutch Shell, by means of its corporate policy, to reduce its CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030 with respect to the level of 2019 for the Shell group and the suppliers and customers of the group,” citing Shell’s existing climate policy as “not concrete and full of condition.” Shell, which earlier this year pledged to reach this 45% reduction level in 2035, immediately responded by saying it would appeal the…
