Japan has said that it will divert some of its LNG supplies into Europe in a bid to reduce any disruption that a Russian invasion of Ukraine could have on the continent’s gas supply. Several vessels, each carrying at least 70,000 tons of LNG, are already on their way to Europe and due to arrive this month according to officials at Japan’s Ministry of Trade, Economy and Industry. More are likely to follow in March and April, although the gesture is primarily symbolic of solidarity between Europe and Japan.
