Transgrid’s $1 billion per year transmission Roadmap

Transgrid has published its latest comprehensive energy roadmap, which involves $16.5 billion AUD ($11 billion USD) in total spending over the next 10 years. Transgrid operates the high-voltage transmission network in the Australian Capital Territory and in New South Wales, which together have a population of almost 9 million. By the end of the roadmap’s 10-year period the grid will be capable of handling 100% renewable energy, though this will only be consistently attained a few years after that point – with 80% of coal scheduled to retire by 2033 and 28 GW of assorted renewables and energy storage replacing that.
