Two large Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) have been announced, one in Germany and one in Shenzhen. The German one doesn’t have an explicit scale or delivery date yet, but is loosely stated to provide “more than the output of a nuclear power plant” – which would be at least several GW. This German project, ‘Flexa,’ is a joint venture of Entrix and Enpal, the latter of which is the biggest business-to-customer solar company in Europe. Some senior Flexa staff comes from Tesla and GridX backgrounds, and the two companies state that this VPP will be Europe’s largest – which figures, since whichever VPP is currently the largest in Europe is probably no more than a hundred MW or so.
