A 2 GW solar project boasting the world’s lowest tariff is on the cards in the United Arab Emirates, after EDF Renewables and Jinko Solar submitted the lowest bid of $13.50 per MWh to a tender for the Al Dhafra project. After state-owned utility Abu Dhabi Power negotiates a PPA with the developers, the project is expected to come online in Q2 2022. A second tender for another 2 GW solar plant will be held at the end of this year.
