What we expected to see from Verizon’s ‘State of the Internet of Things 2016’ market report, compiled by Oxford Economics, were some potentially insightful projections on the number of LTE devices, and perhaps even a brief mention about the US MNO’s thoughts on LPWANs such as Sigfox and LoRa. What has instead been published is a forecast estimating the global installed base of IoT endpoints to grow to 25.6 billion by 2019 and on to 30 billion by 2020, up from 9.7 billion in 2014; and another predicting the worldwide IoT market spend to hit $1.3 trillion by 2019, an increase of 45.5% from the $591.7 billion spent in 2014.
