The wearables market in the US is almost twice as big as Europe, and is one that, despite Apple’s efforts, is largely dominated by Fitbit, according to results of a survey released this week from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. Kantar reported that more than 12.2% of US consumers own either a fitness band or smartwatch, compared to 6.6% in the four major European markets of Germany, France, Italy, and the UK. Fitness bands make up around three quarters of the “wrist wearable” category in the US – with brand, ease of use, and functionality driving the popularity of devices such as Fitbit, Jawbone, and Nike’s FuelBand (now discontinued).
