Apple apparently doesn’t care about the smart home. It seems far more excited about a pencil stylus for its new educational iPad. Both Google and Amazon have come off host CES performances, and Apple has floundered with its $350 HomePod – an impressive bit of audio engineering, but not comparable with the Echoes and Homes that are selling like hotcakes. Google recently announced support for 5000 devices, with Alexa claiming to have more than 30,000 skills available. In comparison, HomeKit works with around 250. The developer conference was almost devoid of hardware news, instead focusing on software.
