The ZigBee Alliance and the Thread Group have announced their collaboration on enabling the ZigBee Cluster Library to run over Thread Networks. Sharing a common ancestor in 802.15.4, the IEEE’s low-power mesh networking standard, this partnership opens the door for interoperability between ZigBee and Thread hardware, allowing ZigBee’s application stack to run over Thread. Fundamentally, this allows ZigBee devices to use the natively IPv6 compliant Thread to add the IP addressability that ZigBee lacks.
